Lapsed Membership
The ‘Lapsed Membership’ report in Reports module of Retention CRM provides Chambers of Commerce, Nonprofits and Associations with a list of members whose memberships have expired or are about to expire. This report helps identify members who might need to renew their memberships and allows membership organizations to target them with renewal campaigns.
General Functionality of ‘Lapsed Membership’ Report
Available Fields
- Member Name: This field displays the name of the member.
- Membership Type: This field specifies the type of membership held by the member (e.g., Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse).
- Current Status: This field indicates the current status of the membership, such as “Current,” “Pending Renewal,” or “Lapsed.”
- Membership Lapse Date: This field shows the date on which the membership expired or will expire.
- Country: This field displays the member’s country of residence (potentially useful for filtering based on location).
Filters:
- Membership Types: This filter allows you to select specific membership types to include in the report (e.g., Registered Nurse only).
- Lapsed Memberships: This filter lets you choose a date range to identify members whose memberships have lapsed within that period or are due to lapse in the future.
- From To: This sub-filter within ‘Lapsed Memberships’ allows you to define the specific date range for lapsed memberships.
- Campaign: This filter helps you target lapsed members who might have participated in a specific marketing campaign.
- Tag: You can filter members based on tags assigned to them in Retention CRM (e.g., “Membership Renewal Required”).
- Group: This filter allows you to target lapsed members who belong to a particular group within the nursing association (e.g., “Oncology Nurses”).
Using ‘Lapsed Membership’ Report in Association Management
Let’s say the nursing association wants to win back lapsed members who were Registered Nurses (RNs). They can use the ‘Lapsed Membership’ report to:
- Filter Membership Types to include only “Registered Nurse.”
- Set the ‘Lapsed Memberships’ filter to a specific date range (e.g., members whose memberships lapsed in the last 6 months).
- They can optionally filter by Country to target a specific region.
This report generates a list of lapsed RN members. The association can then launch a targeted email campaign using Retention CRM to these members, highlighting the benefits of membership renewal and offering incentives for rejoining.
More Use Cases for Chambers of Commerce, Associations and Nonprofits
Association – Renewing Memberships for a Professional Association
Similar to the scenario described in the passage, a professional association can use the “Lapsed Membership” report to identify lapsed members and target them with renewal campaigns. This could be used by organizations like nursing associations, engineering societies, or alumni associations.
Chamber of Commerce – Re-engaging Businesses
Chambers of commerce can leverage the “Lapsed Membership” report to re-engage businesses that have not renewed their memberships. By filtering the report based on membership types (e.g., small businesses, startups) and lapse dates, chambers can identify businesses that might benefit from continued membership. They can then reach out to these businesses with targeted communication highlighting the value proposition of membership and offering incentives for renewal.
Nonprofit – Donor Cultivation
Nonprofits can utilize the “Lapsed Membership” report to cultivate relationships with lapsed donors. By filtering the report based on membership types (e.g., sustaining donors, major donors) and lapse dates, nonprofits can identify individuals who have previously shown interest in their cause. They can then personalize communication to these lapsed donors, thanking them for their past support and encouraging them to renew their membership or make a new donation.
